Production Notes: Casting Call

We're in full swing on our 2010 film Dove.
Today we met with a fantastic young actress who will be playing one of our leading roles. We still have two more major roles to cast.
What else are we working on?
Location scouting, script revisions, promotions on our upcoming screening of Starts Friday, advertising and marketing for both films simultaneously, drawing up the rehearsal and shooting schedules, finalizing dates, interviews, and crap-tons more.

At least there aren't any dull moments.

Oscars '10 or - WTF?

Okay, my opinion on the Academy's selections is basically "what the hell??"
Why did we have to expand the Best Picture category to 10 again? To include The Blind Side and District 9 ? Really? Because I see 5 perfectly good other contenders in there. And no Where the Wild Things Are. Boo.

In my fantasy land, based on the actual nominees, the winners would be Up in the Air or The Hurt Locker , Colin Firth, Kathryn Bigelow, and The Fantastic Mr. Fox.
The rest of the categories? meh.

Guilty Pleasures of Cinema

First of all, a hearty congratulations to The Hurt Locker 's Kathryn Bigelow for being the 4th woman in Academy history to be nominated for Best Director.

In honor of Oscar Day, let's roll out Ben's list of 50 films that had no chance of being nominated, but might be worth a view, anyway.

Terribly overlooked, badly marketed, and given the kiss of death of a release window, Action Jackson was shot on location in Detroit and debuted on February 12, 1988. Helmed by former used car salesman Craig R. Baxley, this kicks off my 50 Guilty Pleasures of Cinema list.

This is it, folks, the underground work- called in an actual newspaper "quirky, endearing, and skillfully produced"- that is Starts Friday will screen in Orson Welles's hometown for possibly the last time this April. September Son Films has a new project on the slate, to begin production this summer, and we're putting SF to bed.

Come on out and meet the film makers, actors and musicians involved in getting this project together, and chat about upcoming work. We love to meet artists, singers, actors, writers, especially locals.

A little about the movie- principle photography was completed in 22 days on Milwaukee's East Side with a cast of four and a crew about the same.
